Expropriating Lands
Shortly after Indian forces assaulted forest-dwelling Gujjar people in Mamer, Ganderbal for protesting in February 2020 against the expropriation of their homes and grazing lands, Indian authorities expropriated 1,298.28 kanals [66 ha] of land across Pulwama, Bandipora, Jammu, Kathua, Srinagar, Ganderbal, and Poonch. They also earmarked 3,000 kanals [151.76 ha] of public land in Bemina, Srinagar for “development” projects. From 2021–24, Indian authorities also diverted 576 hectares of forest land for non-forestry use.
On 13 February 2025, Indian authorities expropriated the home of Safdar Ali Dar in Modergam, Kulgam for allegedly providing shelter to “terrorists.”
On 28 March 2025, Indian authorities expropriated the home worth Rs 50 lakh and 33 kanals and .5 marlas of land [1.6705695 ha] worth Rs 6.93 crore belonging to Farooq Ahmad Shah of Onagam, Bandipora district for alleged “anti-national” activities.
On 10 April 2025, Indian authorities expropriated the homes and 9 kanals and 7 marlas [0.83 ha] of agricultural land worth Rs 3.47 crores belonging to Firdous Ahmad Wani of Treesa, Mohammad Ramzan Bhat of Batpora and Mohammad Ayoub Ganie of Pahlipora in Safapora, Ganderbal district.
On 3 June 2025, Indian authorities expropriated over one-and-a-half kanal [0.076 ha] of agricultural land owned by Ali Mohd in Dharamkund, Sumbar, Ramban district.
On 11 June 2025, Indian authorities expropriated 21 marlas [0.0531 ha] of Mohd Saleem of Takia Tethar, Banihal, Ramban district, .05 marla [0.013 ha] (Khasra No 1156); land measuring 01 marla [.0025 ha] (Khasra No 1161); land measuring 09 marlas [0.023 ha] (under Khasra No 1200); land measuring 05 marlas [0.013 ha] (under Khasra No 1425); and land measuring 01 marla [.0025 ha] (under Khasra No 1435) located at village Tethar Tehsil Banihal District Ramban.
On 16 June 2025, Indian authorities expropriated 02 kanals and 03 marlas [0.86736 ha] (Khasra No. 110-min and Khasra No. 115-min), 01 kanal and 16 marlas [0.09 ha] of Abdul Hamid Lone of Mawar Bala Qalamabad, Handwara, Kupwara district.
On 22 June 2025, Indian authorities expropriated the real property [? ha] of Mohd Shafi Bara and Ghulam Mustafa of Monbal village, Handwara, area of Kupwara district.
On 5 July 2025, Indian authorities expropriated the residential property – land and building structure [? ha] – estimated to be worth approximately Rs 1.5 crore belonging to Mohammad Yousaf Shah of Mir Masjid Mohalla, Shalabagh, Khanyar, Srinagar district.
On 9 July 2025, Indian authorities expropriated 5 kanals and 3 marlas [0.26 ha] of land belonging to Ghulam Rasool Shah of Peer Mohallah Chandigam, Lolab, Kupwara district.
On 11 July 2025, Indian authorities expropriated the home and 01 kanal and 18.5 marlas [0.37 ha] of agricultural land belonging to Hashir Rafiq Parray of Patushay, Bandipora district worth over ₹3.59 crores.
On 12 July 2025, Indian authorities expropriated 9 kanals and 1.5 marlas [1.29 ha] of land worth ₹3.2 crore belonging to Farooq Ahmad Rather of Kurag, Noor Mohammad Parray of Hatbura, and Mohammad Maqbool Sofi of Khurhama, all in Ganderbal district.
On 16 July 2025, Indian authorities expropriated a double-storied residential house with premises at Village Harwani Khansahib, Budgam (under Khasra No. 763), belonging to Manzoor Ahmad Chopan, also known as Rayees, son of Gh. Mohi-ud-din Chopan, R/O Harwani Khansahib; a double-storied residential house along with 05 kanals, 13 marlas [.29 ha] of land at village Chewa Budgam under Khasra No. 151 of Mohammad Yousuf Malik, also known as Molvi, S/O Ab. Rahim Malik, R/O Chewa Budgam; and a land measuring 19.5 marlas [0.0493155 ha] situated at Khag under Khasra Nos. 1093 and 1094, belonging to Bilal Ahmad Wani, alias Umer, S/O Gh.
