Middle East Quartet’s report expressing vehement opposition to Israel’s ongoing settlement construction and warning that it risked ending the chance of two-state solution hit the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies.

The three dailies reported the Quartet as warning that Israeli settlement construction and expansion is “steadily eroding the viability of the two-state solution.”

The Quartet was also reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida as expressing its grave concern about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

Highlighted weekly Friday rallies in their main front page news items, the dailies said scores of Palestinians suffered tear gas inhalation and several others were shot and injured as Israeli forces quelled the rallies.

The three dailies also covered the shooting of a Palestinian teen by Israeli forces following an alleged stabbing attempt in the southern West Bank city of Hebron. This was covered in the main news articles in al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida.

Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israeli forces shot and injured a Palestinian teen after allegedly attempting to carry out a stabbing attack in Hebron.

The injured boy was identified as Usama Zeidat, 15. According to al-Ayyam, he underwent a surgery in an Israeli hospital.

The dailies reported Israeli forces closed all entrances to the northern West Bank city of Nablus.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said hundreds of Palestinians performed Friday prayers at the main entrance of the Nablus village of Beita to protest closure.

Furthermore, al-Quds said the Palestinian Embassy in Bulgaria received the investigation report pertaining to the killing of Palestinian former prisoner Omar al-Nayef.

Al-Nayef died in late February after being found with fatal injuries inside the Palestinian embassy in Bulgaria.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported head of Prisoners’ Affairs Commission Issa Qaraqe` as stating that Malik al-Qadi, who ended his 68-day hunger strike earlier this week in protest of his administrative detention, would be transferred to a Palestinian hospital in Ramallah.

The dailies said Israeli Culture and Sports Minister Miri Regev walked out of a ceremony when a poem by late Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish was recited.

Regionally, al-Hayat al-Jadida reported Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam holding Israeli responsible for foiling peaceful settlement efforts.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported US President Barack Obama vetoed a bill allowing families of victims of 9/11 attacks to sue Saudi Arabia.
