The new Routledge Handbook on Extraterritorial Human Rights Obligations has just been published and it is available in open access here.

This new handbook compiles lessons and analysis by world experts on the human rights obligations of states beyond their territorial borders. It is designed to give meaning and context to these norms, especially for students and practitioners of international relations, foreign policy and law.

Operationalizing these obligations brings us closer to a world in which behavior of states and governments aligns with international law, world order and peace with respect to human rights for all. As human rights are borderless, they apply in multiple locations, situations and policy fields, including:

Migration and the treatment of refugees; biodiversity; environment and climate change; corruption; conflict, occupation and war; development cooperation; economic sanctions; austerity; sovereign debt; humanitarian affairs; tax avoidance and evasion; trade and commerce; international financial institutions; cross-border organized crime; transnational corporations; public health; food security, sustainability and sovereignty; digital surveillance and cyber operations, arms trade; all types of cross-border harm, including pollution and population transfer; and so much more.

We are pleased and proud to be a part of this educational project.
